ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda welcomes the election of Mr. Karim Khan, Q.C., the next Prosecutor of the Court, and declares her support for an effective transition

Elected by the Assembly of State Parties on 12 February 2021, Mr. Karim Khan will take office on the 16th of June and, at this moment, the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) and the current prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, are taking measures to allow for an effective transition to the new mandate. Fatou Bensouda ensured that the new prosecutor will have her full support for taking the office and she further affirmed that in order to expedite the transition process and facilitate communication, the OTP and the Prosecutor Elect have entered into a confidentiality agreement. Potential conflicts of interest arising from Mr. Karim former participation as a trial lawyer at the Court were also addressed.
