Global Human Rights Defence Launchs Global Centre for Peace & Research (GCRP) in Chennai, India

CHENNAI, INDIA – Global Human Rights Defence proudly announces the launch of the Global Centre for Peace & Research (GCRP), a groundbreakingcollaborative initiative with Chinmaya Mission. The inauguration ceremony took place on January 27, 2024, at the Chinmaya Heritage Center in Chennai. The event was graced by the presence of Sradhanand Sital, Chairman of Global Human Rights Defence, and the esteemed board of Chinmaya Mission, under the guidance of Swami Mitrananda.

GHRD, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, has tirelessly worked at grassroots levels with human rights defenders. Over the years, we have identified shortcomings in the capabilities of our local partners, hindering their ability to effectively address human rights issues in a timely manner. Recognizing the importance of good knowledge of national human rights laws and international treaties signed with the UN and EU, GHRD has strived to empower advocates as a tool to hold governments accountable and protect those in need.

The Global Centre for Peace & Research (GCRP) is strategically located at the Chinmaya Heritage Center in the heart of Chennai. It envisions a future where education empowers, cultures converge, diplomacy unites, and research enlightens. GCRP aims to nurture young minds to become future representatives in human rights at the United Nations, collectively forging a world of peace and understanding for the Asian and African continents.

GCRP's mission is to educate human rights defenders in national and international human rights law, provide training for human rights observers, enhance investigation and reporting skills in conflict situations, and create a common ground for peace and conflict mediation. The center aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical implementation, ensuring that defenders are equipped with the tools necessary to enact meaningful change.

Sradhanand Sital, Chairman of Global Human Rights Defence, expressed enthusiasm about the collaborative venture, stating, "The launch of GCRP marks a significant milestone in our journey towards creating a more peaceful and just world. By investing in education and empowering individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to address human rights challenges, we believe we can make a lasting impact."
