The Burki police in Lahore, Pakistan, have lodged a blasphemy case against a Muslim man and his three sons.

The incident took place earlier on November 18, when the man’s wife visited a local mosque to ask for an announcement to be made on the death of their Christian neighbour. The prayer leader alleged the Muslim family thereby insulted Islamic laws: according to the prayer leader, Islam only allows them to make an announcement for the funeral of a Muslim, but not for the funeral of a Christian. Upon returning home, the woman told her husband about the incident, and he and his sons got furious, went to the mosque and allegedly argued with the prayer leader.

The issue went viral on social media, where human rights activists condemned the incident as a misuse of blasphemy laws. Christian residents in the area had nothing to do with the incident and shifted to other parts of the city out of fear (Dawn, 2021).
