Top UN officials have highlighted the need for increased efforts and funding to address various threats in Somalia, including climate shocks, violence, and a looming food crisis. The UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Somalia, Catriona Laing, called on international partners to provide additional support to the country. Concerns were raised about terrorist attacks and violence in disputed areas, causing casualties and displacement of civilians. While progress has been made in the electoral process and tackling terrorism, Al Shabaab remains a significant threat. Efforts to stabilize recovered areas and ensure long-term security and State-building processes are crucial. The humanitarian situation is precarious, with displacement, climate shocks, and insufficient representation of women in politics. The World Food Programme highlighted the destruction of infrastructure and the risk of losing gains made in preventing famine.
