The Express Tribune reported on 22 October 2021 that it was contended by the prime accused’s (Zahir Jaffar) parents (co-accused) that the ‘direction’ of the Islamabad High Court, to the Trial Court to conclude the entire murder trial within the course of eight weeks, violates the accused’s right to fair trial (Article 10 A of the Constitution of Pakistan). (Malik/Bashir, 2021) However, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has reportedly rejected this plea and regarded the submission as “conjectural and without reference to fact.” (Ibid)

However, Zahir Jaffar’s mother (Asmat Zakir Jaffar) was granted bail on conditions of “[…] her name being retained on the ECL [Exist Control List] and her furnishing bail bonds in the sum of

Rupees One Million with one surety in the like amount to the satisfaction of the learned Trial Court concerned.”(Ibid)
