A man has been remanded in police custody for allegedly raping a female doctor.

The police claim to have arrested the suspect who was allegedly involved in sexually assaulting a lady doctor on November 14. The suspect was produced before the judicial magistrate on Wednesday November 17. The investigating officer seeked his physical remand for interrogation and investigation. He submitted that the suspect had reportedly become friends with the victim after which they met on the night of November 14. After spending some hours together that night, the suspect drove her in his car to his home, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her. He subsequently threatened her with dire consequences if she dared to disclose the incident to anyone.

After a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against the suspect, he was immediately taken into custody. The victim was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) to undergo a medical examination.

The investigating officer requested for a physical remand of 14 days. The magistrate disagreed and remanded the suspect in police custody for three days for interrogation. The suspect has to be produced before the magistrate again today along with an investigation report (Dawn, 2021).
