The Appeal judges of the International Criminal Court for the former Yugoslavia will release soon a decision over the case of Ratko Mladic, ending the last Bosnian genocide trial before the UN court. In 2017, Mladic was charged with committing genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes against the Bosnian population of the capital Sarajevo during a 43-month siege. Mladic was also responsible and convicted of the killing of more than 8,000 Muslim men and boys at Srebrenica, Bosnia, in 1995. The ex-former general was first indicted in 1995, but his lawyers appealed his conviction and claimed that the former general could not be held responsible for the crimes committed by his subordinates. The Prosecutors of the case uphold Mladic’s conviction and his life sentence punishment. They stressed that Mladic’s condemnation is a key step towards achieving justice for victims who live with the trauma of the 1990s conflict daily.
