Greece submitted its Baseline Report for the COE Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence

On March 31, 2022, Greece submitted its Baseline Report for the Council of Europe Conention on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention) to the Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO). The report was published and made available publicly two days ago on April 04, 2022 as per Rule 33, paragraph 6 of GREVIO’s Rule of Procedure.
Greece was the 32nd state to ratify Istanbul Convention in 2018. And the report, the country alluded to the various steps it took in order to prevent, investigate and prosecute violence against women and domestic violence since the ratification of the Convention. The discussion also addressed the cross-sectional issue of violence that may be directed towards migrant and asylum seeker women.
According to the report, the tools utilized by Greece in order to achieve the feat of combating violence against women and domestic violence varied from softer tools such as trainings, campaigns, programmes to the hard tools such as substantive legalislations (both criminal and civil) and procedural legislations.
