On Tuesday, January 22nd, 2025, police officials recovered the bodies of two teenagers who were shot to death by the father of one of them, 18-years-old Fatima (GeoNews, 2025). The father, who immediately surrendered himself to the police, argued that he murdered in the name of his family’s honour, after finding the two teenagers on the rooftop of his residence (Dawn, 2025). Unfortunately, much of Pakistan society still follows a strict code of “honour”, with women dependent on their male relatives when it comes to education, employment and familial duties and responsibilities (GeoNews, 2025).

Honour-killings still persist in Pakistan, with the National Human Rights Commission reporting 323 cases in 2024, 314 in 2023 and 246 in 2022 (Dawn, 2024). Additionally, some of them go unreported, as families have a tendency to protect the perpetrators (GeoNews, 2025).
