Baloch Human Rights Council Protest at the UN

Geneva Delegates

The Baloch Human Rights Council (BHRC) today protested before the United Nations in Geneva to highlight human right violations in Balochistan, a region of Pakistan. The organisation advocates for the right to national self-determination for the people of Balochistan and the protection of their human rights which have been violated by both Pakistani and Iranian authorities through extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and forcible displacements.

The BHRC today called upon the UN to form a commission of inquiry or a fact-finding mission to examine human rights violations committed by Pakistan in the region. They emphasised the need for assistance in the recent floods which have affected over 22 million people and have made 8 million homeless in the region, and Pakistan’s failure to provide aid. They further called for the release of missing persons, requested that the region’s right to self-determination be respected, and that Pakistan fulfil their human rights obligations so that the people of Balochistan can live in peace and freedom, with honour and dignity in their own motherland. “We will come again and again until they [the UN] intervene, investigate, and take action.”
