Activists criticize Pakistani PM Imran Khan for blaming rape on how women dress

In an interview on live television, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said that an increase in rapes indicated the “consequences in any society where vulgarity is on the rise”. In response to such declarations, Pakistan rights campaigners have accused the Prime Minister of “baffling ignorance” after he attributed the rise of rape cases to the way women dress.

Moreover, he claimed that wearing the traditional Islamic head covering will protect women from sexual assault and not lead men into temptation. As a result, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan said that these declarations not only portray an unacceptable ignorance of why and how rape occurs, but also places the blame on rape survivors, who range from young children to victims of honour crimes.
