A certain set of criteria set by the Law Society of Manitoba aims at disqualifying people on the basis of deeply personal and irrelevant information about themselves which may particularly trouble indigenous people seeking to be a lawyer. Therefore, the Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) and the Indigenous Bar Association (IBA) call upon the Law Society of Manitoba to revisit this particular requirement. In addition, carry out this revision in consultation with indigenous lawyers, students and communities, and with other marginalized groups which may find the criteria troublesome.
