Descendants of the Gukurahundi victims in Zimbabwe and other migrant workers in the country have been blocked from accessing education due to administrative issues that have rendered them stateless. According to Amnesty International, a lot of Zimbabwean children face challenges because they do not have access to birth certificates and national IDs. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees have revealed that 300 000 people in Zimbabwe failed to acquire identity documents, according to their survey. Without identification, children are unable to access primary, secondary and tertiary education, contrary to the obligations enshrined in various international treaties to provide access without discrimination.
