Natural disasters have a significant effect on people in the hit region, yet women are especially badly impacted by natural disasters especially since there is evidence that suggests that vulnerability and poverty are closely connected with gender inequality, it is suggested that women are more frequent victims of natural disaster then men.

Luckily, a move to normalize gender considerations into disaster preparedness and education, has helped to substantially reduce the impact such disaster had and also contributed to a sustainable development.

On 24th of August 2021, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (hereafter UNESCO) organised a virtual discussion panel on the role of women in preventing, reducing and managing disasters from the frontlines. The panel was organised in partnership with the Women Friendly Disaster Management Core Group (WFDM), a non-governmental organisation based in Nepal.

“The roles women play during disasters are significant in reconstructing, rehabilitating and providing psycho-social counselling both before and after a disaster,”
