Using the Radio for Change in the Central African Republic

Merveille Yayoro is a young reporter at Guira-FM, the radio station run by the UN peacekeeping operation – MINUSCA. In an attempt to combat misinformation and raise awareness of the security situation in the Central African Republic (CAR), Merveille Yayoro, started travelling throughout the country sharing the stories of the people who are being directly impacted by the conflict in the country.

This initiative has been particularly important in Kaga-Bandoro, northern CAR. In this region, and similar places, women face many challenges, especially relating to access to education and professions. For that reason, Guira-FM Radio started broadcasting programmes particularly directed at women. In consequence, women in these regions have started to contribute a lot more to the community in which they are included, in professions like sewing, hairdressing and even construction.
