On 15th September 2021, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet has urged States to move forward with the moratorium campaign that aims to halt the sale and use of Artificial Intelligence systems that represent a risk to the maintenance of digital human rights, such as the right to privacy. She also stressed the urgency in banning those AI technologies that disregard International Human Rights law requirements. According to her:  “Artificial intelligence can be a force for good, helping societies overcome some of the great challenges of our times. But AI technologies can have negative, even catastrophic, effects if they are used without sufficient regard to how they affect people’s human rights,”.  In this sense, the UN Office on Human Rights has published a report highlighting how AI affects digital Human Rights, such as privacy and freedom of expression. Likewise, the report also brings out the importance of private and public players to adopt due diligence at the time they incorporate AI applications. Lastly, the report shed a light on how AI systems can unnecessarily accumulate personal data, which can fuel faulty, discriminatory, out of date or irrelevant decisions. Besides, Long-term storage of data also poses particular risks, as data could in the future be exploited in as yet unknown ways.  For further information, please visit: https://www.ohchr.org/EN/NewsEvents/Pages/DisplayNews.aspx?NewsID=27469&LangID=E
