Uganda asks for more security at Nimule-Juba road

Uganda’s Director for Regional and International Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Arthur Kafeero, said that Uganda is engaging in conversations with South Sudan, regarding the enhancement of security on the Nimule-Juba road in South Sudan. These conversations follow the death of eight Ugandan truck drivers on this road, in the last week of March.

The Elegu-Nimule-Juba route, where this road is included, is a major transport corridor for Uganda and South Sudan. Thus, the death of the Ugandan truck drivers, which sparked protests at Elegu, affected the commercial flow between the two countries, paralysing the flow of exports and travel of passengers to Juba, South Sudan. The protesting drivers, parked at Elegu, demanded that authorities address the incidents of violent crimes happening at the Nimule-Juba road.
