Three killed, two injured in Peshawar shooting over domestic dispute

A devastating crime occurred yesterday in the city of Peshawar. A woman fled her house due to perpetual domestic disputes. Continuing, she seeked shelter at her mother’s house along with her children; this decision however, led to fatal consequences. Her husband, feeling infuriated with his wife's behavior, invaded the house where her and their children were and merciselly he shot her, along with his sister-in-law, and his infant child. All of them died instantly and two other people were severely injured. The ones who were still alive were taken to Lady Reading Hospital so they could receive the necessary care. After committing such an atrocity, the perpetrator managed to escape the house.

Situations where husbands kill ruthlessly their wifes and also their own children because of rage and an illusional feeling of betrayal are unfortunately not rare in Pakistan (Akhtar, 2013). This woman wanted nothing but to escape a dangerous household and attend a safer place for her and her children; in her endeavors to escape abuse she was met with death by her own husband. It is unjustifiable for situations like these to keep occurring, the rights of women and children are being tragically violated in a country where a woman is viewed as a man's belonging and not as an individual human being that should be respected. So many women do not dare to leave a dangerous household due to fear, therefore they keep being abused and even when they dare to escape they still can not be safe (Akhtar, 2013).
