The Delegation of Tibet in Geneva attended the UN forum on minority issues to bring light to the human rights situation in the Tibetan territory. Kladen Tsomo, a UN advocacy officer, spoke up about Tibetan challenges in terms of economy, social protection and demography, as well as the deficiency of job opportunities in the country. As a result of these challenges, Tibetans have been protesting a lot, along with an increased cycle of conflicts and violence. He also underlined the closure of many Tibetan education facilities, and pointed out that Tibetan language schools are also disappearing. He also said that “Job markets are increasingly dominated by a state-sponsored influx of Chinese into Tibetan areas, leaving local Tibetan college graduates with no job prospects” at the UN forum. The main issues raised pointed to the erasure of Tibetan culture, language and identity, along with the systematic attempt by Chinese authorities to complete a sinicization process in the minority areas.

The spokesperson for the Tibet Bureau also raised some recommendations for the Chinese government to solve this lasting problem based on dialogue, cooperation and collaboration with Tibetan representatives. He also referred to the UN mandate holders to acknowledge the struggles of Tibetan people under the Chinese regime.
