On 17th May 2021, the Pre-trial chamber confirmed that a hearing to listen and discuss the charges against Mr. Abd–Al-Rahman is scheduled to happen on 24th May 2021. He is being accused of perpetrating war crimes and crimes against humanity allegedly committed in Darfur (Sudan). The list of crimes against humanity includes murder, deportation or forcible transfer of population, imprisonment or other severe deprivation of physical liberty, torture, persecution, and inhumane acts of inflicting serious bodily injury and suffering. Among his war crimes, there are crimes of violence to life and person, outrage upon personal dignity in particular humiliating and degrading treatment, intentionally directing an attack against a civilian population, pillaging, rape, and destroying or seizing the property. According to the Pre-trial chamber, the hearing aims to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to establish substantial grounds to believe that the defendant committed each of the crimes charged.
