The Kingdom of the Netherlands and Canada issued a joint statement affirming their willingness to take actions towards accountability for gross human rights violations committed by Syria.

The two States released a joint statement affirming that they will work on joint actions to hold the Assad regime accountable for the human rights violations perpetrated in Syria, especially torture under UN Convention Against Torture. They recalled Syria’s responsibility to stop those violations and further announced their commitment to try to solve the situation through political negotiations initially, but failing, they affirmed their willingness to take legal actions. Canada and the Netherlands also urged the international community to take actions for holding Syria accountable and to join their efforts.
