The Inter-American Commission of Human Rights grants precautionary measures in favour of a missing man in Nicaragua.

On 13th June 2021, the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights adopted a precautionary measure order in favour of Jhovanny Alexander Tenorio Urbina, after having considered that finds himself in a situation of serious and urgent risk of irreparable damage to his rights in Nicaragua. Jhovanny disappeared on 2 May when two armed men who identified themselves as police officers arrested him. Since then, his whereabouts remain unknown. For that reason, after having analyzed the submissions of fact and law furnished by the applicants, the IACHR concluded that Mr. Tenorio Urbina is indeed passing through a serious and urgent situation that can amount to an irreparable violation of his personal integrity and life. Therefore, the IACHR demanded the State of Nicaragua to adopt the necessary measures to protect the rights to life and personal integrity of Jhovanny Alexander Tenorio Urbina. Furthermore, the Commission urged the national authorities to report whether the beneficiary is in the custody of the State and, where appropriate, the circumstances of his deprivation of liberty, or else, adopt the measures aimed at determining his whereabouts or fate.
