The IACHR publishes its Practical Guide “How to promote universal access to the Internet during the COVID-19 pandemic”.

he Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) in collaboration with its Special Rapporteurships on Freedom of [removed]RELE) and on Economic, Social, Cultural and Environmental Rights (REDESCA) presented on March 26th a series of practical guides to address issues related to human rights in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. These guides contain public policy recommendations to guide the practices and decisions adopted by States in dealing with the pandemic situation. One of them stresses the importance of the internet as a mechanism for people to keep living during the social distancing measures and how the lack of internet might significantly affect human rights. In that sense, the IACHR decided to prepare this guide as a way to help States to identify both opportunities and challenges related to digital connection, and align their next steps with the respect for International Human Rights rules.
