The Fight Against COVID-19 In SÃO TOMÉ And PRÍNCIPE: Vaccinations and International Aid

The COVID-19 pandemic is still a threat to the world, especially because of the so-called Delta variant. Therefore, it is also known that the only way of ending this global crisis is through the vaccination process, which is still surrounded by inequalities between the Northern and Southern countries.

Having this perspective in mind, the World Bank approved the second financial aid to Sao Tome and Principe (STP) to improve the emergency response against COVID-19, which will focus exclusively on vaccination efforts. With this aid, STP will be able to vaccinate 70% of its population by March 2022 through buying and applying the approved vaccines.

Besides the international aid offered by the World Bank, the Republic of Portugal also sent 12,000 doses of the COVID vaccinations to the country. The vaccines donated by the Portuguese government are ready to be applied to tradespeople and people working in hotel services, which are the two target-groups to this phase of vaccinations in STP.
