The Council of Europe’s Conference on the Promotion of Equality and Fight Against Discrimination

On the 17th of March 2022 a conference promoting equality, fighting discrimination, and protecting vulnerable groups will take place in Rome, Italy. The event is organised by the Italian authorities and the event will occur during the fifth meeting of the Steering Committee on Anti-Discrimination, Diversity, and Inclusion (CDADI) during the Italian Presidency of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers. 

The CDADI’s global objective is to “promote equality for all and build more inclusive societies that offer adequate protection from discrimination and hate and where diversity is respected”. More specifically, the Committee has recently focused on developing strategies to combat hate speech and upholding equality amongst all during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Committee’s work is essential as its work is part of the key priorities of the Council of Europe’s 2020/25 Strategic Framework.

The conference will focus on Italy’s initiative in the following fields: “anti-discrimination, diversity and inclusion, in particular of Roma and Travellers, migrants and refugees; and various forms of intolerance linked to religion or belief, sexual orientation or gender identity”. The speakers of the conference will include representatives of the Council of Europe, Italian political figures, governmental representatives, and human rights activists. The conference can also be viewed online for those who wish to follow it.
