On the 18th of August, the official award ceremony of the Europe Prize 2023 was held in the city of Bolesławiec, Poland. This ceremony was attended by a large public and representatives of twinned cities, schools, business actors, certain associations, the President, and other honorary citizens.
The Chairperson of the Sub-Committee on the Europe Prize, Carmen Leyte, presented Piotr Roman, Mayor of Bolesławiec, with the Europe Prize trophy, a diploma, a medal and a 20,000 euro grant for a study trip to the Council of Europe for young people.
Bolesławiec received recognition for its collaboration in the areas of sports, education, and culture with foreign municipalities. The city is notably engaged in numerous projects funded by the EU, partnering with European counterparts, and actively participating in cross-border cooperation efforts. Its dedication to youth is demonstrated through the regular organisation of educational events centered around Europe, as well as the annual European picnic held in May.
Furthermore, the city displays its spirit of solidarity by having signed a solidarity declaration with Ukraine in 2022, joined by delegations from all its twinned cities. Bolesławiec is also renowned for its Ceramics Festival, drawing thousands of Europeans each year. Additionally, it holds membership in two Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe.
In 2023, the city of Bolesławiec joins the ranks as the 83rd recipient of the Europe Prize, an honor established in 1955.
