Taliban fighters detain, flog, and beat journalists covering protests in Afghanistan

According to some human rights sources and reports in the field, during the last day's demonstrations in Kabul, the Taliban have arrested several journalists that were covering the protests.

In detention, they were allegedly tortured for hours, being insulted and flogged with cables, some of them were reported to even lose their consciousness. The journalists were later released and a few had to receive medical treatment. With the number of protests

and protesters growing, including women’s activists, the Taliban have been increasing the repression and violence against journalists and demonstrators, rapidly proving that promises of an independent and free media were worthless.
