Statement of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim A. A. Khan QC, on the escalating violence in the Situation in Afghanistan

The prosecutor expressed his concern about the numerous human rights violations perpetrated in Afghanistan during these days. In particular, the reported incidents include summary executions, persecution of women and girls, and crimes against children. The unstable situation in the country has already led to the loss of many lives, and Mr Khan called on the parties to observe their international humanitarian obligations in the conflict. The prosecutor concluded by recalling the values of the statute of Rome and hoped that the situation would be resolved by peaceful reconciliation.
