SADC sends troops to Cabo Delgado to help stabilize the insurgency in the province

The South African Development Community, on June 23, 2021, resolved to deploy its Standby Force Mission to assist Mozambique in stabilizing the insurgency in the northern province of Cabo Delgado which started about for years ago. The said insurgency has taken 3,000 lives and leaves 800,000 displaced. During the Extraordinary Summit of the SADC, the 16 members decided to deploy their troops upon the request of Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi. Additionally, the SADC will be cooperating with humanitarian agencies active in the area to provide support to those affected by the insurgency in Cabo Delgado.
