On Wednesday, February 5th, 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Zardari celebrated Kashmir Solidarity Day to renew their commitment towards the liberation of the Kashmiri population from India’s suppression (Dawn, 2025). PM Shehbaz argued that despite the right to self-determination being a fundamental principle of international law, the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) has remained one of the most militarised zones in the world (Dawn, 2025). He also condemned the extra-judicial killings and the arbitrary detention of Kashmiri leaders that the Indian government has been carrying out in the region (The Express Tribune, 2025).

Separately, the Prime Minister visited Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), for one day, on Wednesday, to reaffirm Pakistan’s unwavering support for the people of India-occupied Kashmir (Dawn, 2025). Similarly, President Zardari urged the international community, and the United Nations, to honour its responsibilities and help the Kashmiris in their struggle, upholding their right to self-determination (The Express Tribune, 2025).
