The Minister for Human Rights Riaz Hussain Pirzada met with a delegation of journalists to discuss human rights violations against journalists. The delegation included members of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists and the National Press Club. He assured the delegation that the government would address human rights violations against journalists. The delegation raised their concern over several incidents against journalists and handed over a charter of demands. In response, the Minister for Human Rights promised that the government would augment its efforts to ensure the safety and security of journalists and address targeted killings, abductions, enforced disappearances and attacks against journalists, with a specific focus on Balochistan. The government is currently in the process of establishing an independent commission for the Protection of Journalists and Media Professional Act.
