It is reported by the Express Tribune that over 6000 women have submitted complaints of sexual harassment to the FIA during last 8 months. A large number of these complaints are concerned with blackmailing with recorded and doctored video clips and photographs from calls or chats on WhatsApp and Facebook.

The FIA sources told the Express Tribune that people’s inability to understand and use the security features of their phones and computers leaves them vulnerable to leakage and misuse. In addition, women working in various companies had also filed complaints of sexual harassment.

It is further reported that the FIA has to process these complaints in accordance with the law. So, when the FIA is unable to get the relevant record from the social media operators, like Facebook, Whatsapp etc, they are not able to process such complaints.

The FIA Cybercrime Wing Director General Babar Bakht Quershi said that a large number of cases dealt with matrimonial disputes or relationships. He stated that “Problems are also faced by the people who do not know how to use modern technology”.
