Today, the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that it is ‘confident’ that the terrorists who attacked Pakistan’s head of mission in Kabul, Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani, will be held accountable (The News International, 2022).

The Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated that the investigation is ongoing, and Pakistan is closely following it (The News International, 2022). Furthermore, she stated that Pakistan remains in active contact with the relevant Afghan authorities on the matter (The News International, 2022).

Earlier today, the Afghan government’s spokesperson Zabiulla Mujahid claimed that the assailants who perpetrated the attack had been arrested and that they were Daesh operatives (The News International, 2022). Additionally, Mujahid stated that the persons that attacked the embassy are foreigners and that the aim of their attack was to create distrust between Pakistan and Afghanistan (The News International, 2022).

The Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson responded to the statements of the Afghan government saying that they are confident that the terrorist attack that targeted Pakistan’s head of mission in Kabul will be fully investigated as well as the perpetrators and their abettors will be held accountable (The News International, 2022). In addition,  Baloch stated that Pakistan will remain steadfast in its commitment to fighting terrorism (The News International, 2022).

Finally, Pakistan’s Foreign Office confirmed that Nizamani was indeed the target of the attack and even though the attackers missed him, they severely injured an embassy security guard while he was protecting the ambassador (The News International, 2022).
