No one is safe until everyone is safe: The donation of COVID-19 vaccines to Djibouti

Unfortunately, the process of vaccination against COVID-19 is unequal around the world. While some countries have the availability to vaccinate their populations twice, other countries do not have even one dose per person. The United States of America is a global power in the world, having doses of vaccines available to any eligible person.

Therefore, the policy of global cooperation of President Joe Biden includes facing this health crisis with a global agency, having measures and intentions of donating doses of vaccines to poorer countries. However, the COVAX Facility held by the World Health Organization is the most important and the biggest initiative to offer vaccines in a fairer way around the globe.

The Republic of Djibouti has received more than 150 000 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, which is applied on a single-dose scheme. This donation was offered by the United States and will reinforce the vaccination campaign in Djibouti.

In an important event in Djibouti, the Health Minister, the USA Ambassador and a Representative of UNICEF highlighted the necessity of a fairer distribution of the vaccines around the world to end this pandemic and fight against its effects. Furthermore, the importance of global cooperation and the United Nations system was also emphasized.
