The United Nations Humanitarian Air Services have temporarily halted flights from Palma to Pemba, a city located in Mozambique’s northeastern coast. The temporary suspension is due to the massive demand for the service. Despite the government of Mozambique regaining control after the attacks in Palma, a high number of people are still fleeing Palma. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) reported 14 576 people, 44% of whom are children have flown from Palma to the cities of Nangade, Mueda, Montepuez and Pemba districts. At least 70% of those arrivals are staying with host families. However, the UN is concerned about at least 1000 people fleeing to Tanzania from Palma. Moreover, the Protection Cluster indicates that there are almost no safe exit routes from Palma, which drives people to exit through bushes and forests in search for safety.
