Mohammad Babul Mia, a Former Leader of Bangladesh National Party (BNP), Was Brutally Attacked and Murdered in Front of His Wife

A former BNP leader was beaten to death in front of his wife while harvesting mustard in Dhaka’s Dhamrai Upazila. The incident has been linked to a previous real estate dispute among local villagers. Investigations are ongoing to identify the possible suspects of the crime. 

On February 21st, BNP’s former leader of Kulla Union Parishad, Mohammad Babul Mia, was attacked and beaten to death. The incident took place around 1:30 PM, near the Boro Kushiara area of the Upazila, where the victim was harvesting mustard with his wife.

Babul was beaten up with sticks and SS pipes, with the aggressors tearing out both of his eyeballs. The criminals did not let the locals intervene, blocking attempts to drive to the hospital. They only left after seeing him unconscious. Babul was taken to Savar Enam Medical College Hos

pital with severe injuries and was declared dead by the doctors. 

The police investigations have linked the case to the previously existing dispute. According to Babul’s wife, Yasmin Begum, the conflict was among the villagers over the real estate business – Akshirnagar Housing. Yasmin also claimed that local criminals had been threatening both of them for days before his murder. The Investigations are still ongoing to identify the possible suspects involved in the crime. 

Bangladeshi civic unrest under the interim government has been exacerbated by the targeted attacks on religious minorities, indigenous groups, and the political opposition. BNP leaders have also been accusing the government of specifically targeting their party and demand upholding justice for all Bangladeshi citizens.
