Sanobhai and his six-member family of the Bote community are in desperate need for a new house as his hut at Ramauli in Manahari Rural Municipality is no longer habitable. The family have lived in their poorly constructed hut that no longer protects them from the changing seasons and the current floods. Sanobhai and his family, with many others in the community were promised two years ago that the government would have provided them new housing settlements. However, the community has still yet to receive their houses since the budget allocated for the housing programme has been frozen due to the negligence of the authorities concerned.

The Bote community is a marginalised group of people that largely depends on fishing for their survival. “The Bote people are languishing in flimsy huts that offer little protection from the elements while the budget allocated to build concrete houses for those needy people remains frozen” said Ekaraj Uprety, chairman of Manahari Rural Municipality.
