Man Is Arrested on Blasphemy Charge

On Wednesday, the 20th of October 2021, the Ganda Singhwala police arrested a man on an alleged blasphemy charge. This is a crime laid down in the Pakistan Penal Code, which prohibits showing contempt, insulting, or offending any recognized religion.
The man allegedly burned Eid Milad pamphlets and banners publicly in the street on the 14th of October, 2021. The First Information Report also includes eye-witnesses all living in the same village, and the police acted upon a complaint and arrested the man. The penalties for a blasphemy charge differ from a fine to death.
