The situation of Rohingya refugees who fled from their home country Myanmar to Malaysia, stays insufficient. As Malaysia never signed the Geneva Refugee Convention, it does as well not have any other formal policy on refugees. This makes measures towards refugees unpredictable and highly dependent from the respective government in power. Although Malaysian policy can be historically described as pro-Rohingya, the arrival of more and more refugees from Myanmar lead to a shift of the public opinion on the refugee topic which worsened even more through the pandemic.
