Joint US-Tanzania COVID-19 management project launched in Dodoma

On September 10, 2021, the government of Tanzania, in cooperation with the government of the United States, launched a 10-month-long joint project in Tanzania’s capital of Dodoma, aimed at strengthening the management of COVID-19 patients in Tanzania’s regional referral hospitals, improving survival rates, and ensuring a speedy recovery.

The project is sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), an agency of the United States government distributing aid and assistance to foreign countries, with 750,000 (seven hundred fifty thousand) United States Dollars (USD), an equivalent of 1.7 billion Tanzanian Shilling (TZS) and is going to be implemented by Save the Children, a non-profit humanitarian organization protecting children all over the globe.

The USAID funds will be used to ensure sufficient oxygen supply and professional training for healthcare personnel at Tanzania’s at four regional referral hospitals, namely Dodoma Regional Referral Hospital, Mount Meru Regional Referral Hospital, Bombo Regional Referral Hospital, and Sekou Toure Regional Referral Hospital.

The USAID Project Management Specialist, Dr. Miriam Kombe, reiterated the commitment of the United States government to cooperate with the government of Tanzania on Tanzania’s National COVID-19 Response Plan. Dr. Miriam Kombe further expressed his hopes that the joint project would mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Tanzanians, safeguarding continuous access to COVID-19 vaccines and medical facilities.
