Ivory Coast’s former president and his ally, Gbagbo and Blé Goudé, receive the final acquittal decision from the International Criminal Court (ICC)

On 31 March 2021, the ICC Appeal Chamber confirmed, by majority, the Trial Chamber I’s decision of acquittal of Mr Gbagbo and Mr Blé Goudé from charges of crimes against humanity allegedly committed in Côte d’Ivoire between 2010 and 2011. The decision was issued on the appeal of the Prosecutor, who alleged errors during the trial, which according to the majority of the Appeal Chamber’s judges were not found. This verdict is now final, without the possibility of further appeals.
