In crisis-hit Lebanon, celebrating Eid is for the ‘happy few’

For Muslims, this week is Eid al-Adha, usually celebrated with family gatherings, abundant food and gifts. However, in Lebanon, the festivities are an afterthought for many Muslims due to the acute financial crisis. With nearly 50 percent of the population living below the poverty line, most Lebanese struggle to meet their families’ basic needs and they cannot afford the food, sweets and clothes that are usually part of Eid celebrations.
