ICJ Begins Deliberation on Preliminary Objections Raised in Arbitral Awards Case (Guyana v. Venezuela)

The public hearings on the preliminary objections raised by Venezuela in the case concerning the Arbitral Award of 3 October 1899 (Guyana v. Venezuela) before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) were concluded on November 22nd, 2022. The ICJ will now begin deliberations. The hearings opened on November 17th, 2022 in the Hague, relating to an application filed by Guyana on March 29th, 2018 regarding the determination of the boundary line between the colony of British Guiana and Venezuela.
