ICC’s Pre-trial Chamber confirms the charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity against Ali Muhammad Ali Abd-Al-Rahman.

On 9th July 2021, the International Criminal Court’s Pre-trial chamber II issued a unanimous decision that confirmed the charges of crimes against humanity and war crimes against Mr Ali Muhammad Ali Abd-Al-Rahman in the case of Prosecution v. Abd-Al Rahman. Mr Abd-Al-Rahman first appearance before the ICC occurred in June 2020 after he had surrendered himself in the Central African Republic. The judges concluded that there is solid evidence that the defendant committed at least 31 offences between war crimes and crimes against humanity allegedly committed between August 2003 and at least April 2004 in Kodoom, Bindisi, Mukjar, Deleig and their surrounding areas in Darfur, Sudan. Among his war crimes, the Pre-trial Chamber II confirmed cases of intended attacks against the civilian population, murder, pillaging, destruction of the property of an adversary, and many others. Regarding his crimes against humanity, the judges confirmed the accusations of murder, rape forced transfer, torture, and others. It is important to mention that the decision confirming the charges can be appealed only with the authorisation of Pre-Trial Chamber II.
