The International Criminal Court (ICC) launched the campaign “Join the ICC List of Counsels!” on November 21st, 2022. The campaign aims to increase the number of lawyers from Latin America and the Caribbean practising before the ICC through activities with national bar associations, information sessions, and the prioritisation of applications from the region to the List of Counsel. As one of the least represented regions on the List of Counsel and the List of Assistants to Counsel, with almost no female representation, the initiative was undertaken as part of the ICC’s commitment to improving the geographic and gender representation in the List of Counsel. ICC Registrar Peter Lewis stated that “[t]his campaign is pivotal to the continued dialogue with the legal communities of the region and to enhancing knowledge about the ICC. Lawyers play a crucial role as leaders in the international criminal law field”. [1] The campaign has the financial support of the European Commission and is in collaboration with the International Bar Association and the International Criminal Court Bar Association.
