Humanitarian Action in Yemen Should Remain a Priority

The UN views the current situation in Yemen to be one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world, further exacerbated by the impact of COVID-19. The country is experiencing a second wave, famine and civil conflict simultaneously while the UN and aid agencies work together with government to arrange vaccinations as quickly as possible. The Houthi rebels remain a barrier to access in the Marib region amidst unsuccessful talks with the sitting government regarding a ceasefire. The Yemeni government has further acknowledged the need to increase access to aid in various areas of the country and limit regulations that create more barriers. State representatives of different countries have come forward sharing their various views on the current crisis, highlighting that this remains a global issue to be addressed collectively.
