Human Rights Support Society (HRSS) issued a report outlining the situation of human rights violation in Bangladesh last month mainly caused by political clashes, affecting human rights of women, minorities, and journalists.

On April 10th, 2025, Human Rights Support Society (HRSS) issued a report highlighting a grim picture of the human rights situation in Bangladesh. According to the report, over 23 people were killed and 733 injured in more than 97 incidents of political violence across Bangladesh in March this year. In various “political cases”, police arrested at least 1,665 people, including at least 1644 AL leaders and activists. This report comprehensively demonstrated the violation of human rights from several perspectives.

At least 40 incidents of (indiscriminate) violence, including “mob beating”, happened and caused 12 deaths and 44 injuries. From the perspective of sexual and gender-based violence, the report revealed that at least 284 women and girls were subjected to various forms of torture, including 83 rapes against girls under 18, 30 gang rapes, and 102 incidents of sexual harrassment. Furthermore, it is reported that 20 women were killed and 207 children were tortured in domestic violence. In regards to violence based on political parties, the report indicated that extortion, vengeance and establishing supremacy sparked violent political infighting, which led to 88 clashes, 502 injuries and 17 deaths. The impact of political conflicts also extended to the journalists’ human rights, 41 of whom faced at least 29 incidents of torture and harrassment last month. In addition, the violation of minority human rights was also reported. However, due to the widespread discrimination and threats, attacks against minorities are often underreported.

According to the monthly report of the HRSS, compared with political clashes in February, the number of clashes decreased, mainly focusing on the conflicts between rival factions of the BNP, while the number of deaths doubled.
