Mr. Alban Bagbin responded to a statement made by the Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr. Gregory Andrews, in which Mr, Andrews said that ‘any attempt by Ghana’s Parliament to enact or pass legislation to discriminate against the rights of the LGBTQI+ community will be disappointing’. Mr. Andrews had also stated that the Ghanaian culture needs to ‘accept people for who they are by respecting their rights without causing any harm.’ Speaker Bagbin had said that the Ghanaian Parliament will not pass any legislation that will infringe on people’s human rights, however the Parliament will not legalize homosexuality. Mr. Bagbin stated that LGBTQI+ practices are contrary to Ghana’s customs, therefore it will not be accepted in the country.
