The court found the defendant guilty of membership in a foreign terrorist organisation, assault, deprivation of liberty, aiding and abetting rape, enslavement and religious and gender-based persecution as crimes against humanity. She was sentenced to six years and six months of imprisonment. This is the third conviction of an ISIS member in Germany for crimes against humanity, which represents a further step towards justice for atrocity crimes. The defendant was identified as Sarah O. and in 2013 she married another German man whose whereabouts is unknown. Both are responsible for enslaving the Yazidi women and girls who had been kidnapped during ISIS’ genocidal campaign and selling them to ISIS fighters.
