Gerald Lewis, Anishinaabe chief, lives on the source of all Winnipeg’s drinking water. He states that it is high time to negotiate compensation for the use and exploitation of the water source the Anishinaabe community have used and lived next to for a long period of time. This compensation would help with much needed housing, health care and economic opportunities. A $500-million lawsuit has been initiated against the province of Ontario due to the neglecting behavior of the authorities towards the struggling indigenous community.
